The desks in the back, near the window and the cabinet.

Jaagrit Randhawa: Hey Mckenna, How are you feeling about being Editor in Chief?
McKenna Trimble: Good!

J: What are you planning on improving?
M: Make the group more cohesive obviously improve the quality of the book, we always want to do that. Maybe getting Manuscript off the ground and more independent.

J: What are you most looking forward to?
M: Working with everyone on staff.

J: What past experiences do you have that will help you?
M: I was head of layout for the 2012-2013, uhmm, and I was apprentice to that position sophomore year.

J: Why do you like the magazine?
M: I like that it unites everybody with art.

J: How much time do you spend on the magazine?
M: A good bit. I spent more than 25 hours making it this year.

J: What do you want to accomplish by the end of senior year?
M: I want to have manuscript working, completed book, and submit it to Scholastics.

J: What's your favorite part of Tapestry?
M: Everybody in it, and the parties are good too.

J: Last words?
M: GO WRITE!!

Congratulations to Mckenna!

Kathe Kollwitz - Beautiful work

I've recently been very inspired by Kathe Kollwitz. She is an artist whose lifetime spanned both world wars and whose work reflects the emotional baggage she harbored throughout life in Berlin. I am a huge fan of her intricate woodcut pieces and those that utilize the extremes of light - black/white - to evoke genuine spectrums of emotion. "Infant Mortality" is my favorite. I love that she parallels the light source's implied location beyond some blind, shutter, or curtain with a sense of glimpsing into a personal and private scene.

Sam (also check out my poem "Road Test" below)

Road Test by Sam Schanwald

I wrote a poem about my experience taking my road test for my license (which I finally got).

Road Test

Coming at me, precisely 32 mph,
Not too fast and not too slow,
Passable.
A furry wretched thing,
With its legs up in the air,
Four little sweaty emaciated dancers,
Mounted in a sandbag-thing of fur,
And its waterslide mouth open,
Ready to swallow me whole,
If I were miniscule,
And the metal death-box I drive
Were miniscule.

I swerve,
And leave it in a shroud of pavement dust.
Did he dock me points?
I glance at his clipboard.
Not writing,
His old hand,
Sensible wedding band,
Pen flat down on top of black and white digits
That say things about my residency and age,
But not my dead friend hugging the yellow lines.

I pull into the space he tells me to,
Right beside the blue minivan,
And I think about the owner of the minivan
And how he might have made the same decision
Or might have been the killer himself.

“You passed.”

Nina Katchadourian borrows the words she uses for her unusual poetry from the spines of books. She arranges those spines, book upon book, so that they form brief poems that are often insightful and surprising.
