Hi everyone! So I have recently become slightly obsessed with slam poetry, (thanks Creative Comp) and often times find myself losing all track of time while I am watching it on Youtube. So, in light of this new fixation I thought I would share one of my favorites with you all. It's a little ironic because it is about the roadblock that social media has caused in forming true relationships, but just pretend that you aren't on a blog watching this and everything should be ok. Anyway slam poetry may seem really intimidating; ok it is intimidating, but it is one of the most rewarding experiences that I have ever had a chance to be a part of. I had to write and perform a slam poem for Creative Comp and to say that I was panicked would be an understatement. But getting up and performing the poem pushed me out of my comfort zone and I realized how powerful this medium can be. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that for those of you that find watching slam poetry as moving as I do, you should definitely consider writing and performing some of your own. There is a Pittsburgh Youth Slam Poetry League, that one of our very own, Rachel Stein, actually just won a slam competition through. And I know that there are an incredible number of talented artists in this school, as I get to see all of your submissions to Tapestry every day. And you can be openly bitter about something without getting eye rolls... I find that promising anyway. Ok enough of my propaganda, just go slam. Just do it.
