How To: Procrastinate

I am sitting on my bed with my computer on my lap, procrastinating (as always) on writing my conclusion for my English essay. If there were a degree in procrastination, I would be a doctor by now. My attention span allows me to type one sentence before my mind is pulled towards something else. Since I am oh so fabulous at the art of procrastination, I decided I would let you in on some tools I use to be the best I can be at my profession.

1. PENTATONIX. Pentatonix is a group of five (a cappella) singers who make covers on YouTube of popular music and they are AMAZING. Here are two of their videos to help you procrastinate (I have watched all of them in my quest to perfect my procrastination abilities):

2. Check your email every 5 minutes.

3. Check Twitter every 10 minutes; Tweet every half hour.

4. Watch the Internship and wish that one day you would work for Google.

5. Search for real Google internships before realizing you have not yet graduated high school.

6. Bake scones and eat them because you are sad that you cannot go to California and work for Google.

7. Post on the Tapestry Blog (;

Hope all of my tips help you to procrastinate the best that you can! They have helped me all weekend (including seeing the fall play, "Lost In Yonkers," which was a quite enjoyable way to get my mind off of my essay).

I should probably get back to watching Pentatonix... or maybe start my conclusion. We'll see.

Senioritis: A Case Study

Definition: A degenerative disease that degrades the Motivation Complex and exacerbates the Procrastination Cortex.  Those afflicted with Senioritis usually range from 17 to 18 years of age, with equal representations of both genders.  Almost all affected individuals are enrolled in the twelfth grade of secondary school, although cases of early onset have been widely reported.

Symptoms:
- Grossly diminished attention span
- Increased capacity to formulate excuses
- Addiction to social media outlet
- Noticeable amnesia

Senioritis progresses in four stages that are easily distinguished by the severity of the conspicuous symptoms.

Stage One: The individual typically develops Senioritis early in his/her senior year, but symptoms do not manifest for several weeks.  The student gradually reduces the amount of time invested in assignments or studying, but the change in academic habits is nearly imperceptible in his/her grades, which largely remain the same.  The student is the first to notice the change in behavior, and can often be heard commenting about his/her ‘procrastination.’

Stage Two:  The student suddenly develops the ability to avoid activities that require mental exertion.  He/She may regularly leave assignments uncompleted and often approaches test with a fatalistic attitude.  The student begins to interpret deadlines as suggestions.

Stage Three: The student is no longer conscious of the present.  He/She develops an imaginary existence, typically one that takes place on a college campus several months in the future.  All attempts to rouse the student are usually met with apathetic stares.

Cure:  Most studies have shown that a diploma immediately eradicates Senioritis, with no adverse effects to the student.

Smile for the Camera!

Good morning everybody!
It's not my blog day (sorry McKenna!), but I thought that I would just post the picture that we picked to submit to yearbook. Everyone looks great!

Have a great Friday/weekend!

I’m Obsessed With... ‘The Mindy Project'

I have the right to life, liberty, and chicken wings.”- Dr. Mindy Lahiri

Over the past few weeks, I’ve recently grown very attached to the show, The Mindy Project.  The show follows the life of gynecologist, Mindy Lahiri, as she navigates her life in New York City; great at her job, but not so great at romance or being a good person (but is working on both).  It is both subtly and laugh out loud funny with a wide variety of characters who all have a great connection with each other.  The show isn’t necessarily plot driven but everyone has enough layers and potential for growth to be worth caring about.  The humor and delight of the show comes from seeing Mindy do something stupid even though she knows it is stupid and watching the resulting moment of her self- reflection- or the lengths she’ll go to avoid it.

When I first decided to start watching the show, I wasn’t sure if I would like it because I hadn’t really heard much about it.  But the first five minutes drew me in.  Dr. Mindy Lahiri was drunk at her ex boyfriend’s wedding, and she made a fool of herself on stage, trying to rip apart her former lover.  Then, Mindy rode away on a bike into someone’s pool.  She didn’t beat herself up about this though, she saw it as a learning experience because she was at a moment of weakness.  Mindy occasionally throws a pity party for herself but then she will get back up and pull herself together; always with a witty comment.

I love how relatable and real Mindy Lahiri is.  Crazy, stylish, and funny, Mindy is such a dynamic character who is and will always be my role model.  She is the celebrity best friend that I wish I had.  I love how comfortable Mindy is with her body, it is extremely admirable.  She always jokes around and makes comments like, “I fluctuate between chubby and curvy.”  Mindy is positive and hopeful; embracing herself and her life.  It’s a new, refreshing kind of confidence in being a flawed person who doesn’t have life all the way figured out.

If you are bored on a Sunday evening or you need a break from the chaos in your life, sit down and watch an episode of The Mindy Project.  It is so down to earth and real; I promise you, it will make your day instantly better.

Until next time, xoxo Sarah

P.S. If you haven't heard the song, I See Fire by Ed Sheeran, you should listen to it!

October Favorites

HEY HEY HEY!

I’m positive that if you have been on the internet as long as it’s existed you must have come across a Favorites video on YouTube by now. But if by the miracle of your luck or because of your personal preference you have been unable to experience a Favorites video, no worries your time has come.
In its essence a Favorites video or in this case a blog post is where the author talks about the things that were their favorites about that month. And here I’ll be sharing my October Favorites!

  1. Alt-J- This band. I can’t even begin to explain because their music has the most flawless sound and it is ridiculously addicting. I listen to them all day so, when I don’t have them physically playing I can still hear them in my head like background music to my life. The indie music and the occasional rock may just be the perfect music for this fall. Listen to Taro for sure, it's my fave.
  2. Pumpkin Carving Party- I am so glad we did this.
  3. End of the 9 Weeks- My favorite because that means school year is ¼ done.
  4. Cliff Granola Bars- Are you feeling sluggish? Is it second period and your body is feeling lethargic? Are you day-dreaming about going home and taking a nap? Get one of these extra-scrumptious and extra-energizing bars from the local grocery store and you’ll be on your way to becoming a super-diligent and super-excellent student.
  5. Halloween- This is cliché favorite but it needed to be said, because hullo! FREE CANDY!
  6. Bread Baking- I baked plain bread for the first time for school purposes; the process was so therapeutic and the end result was delicious. It is something I would definitely do again. Also, post-baking my house was really warm and smelled great .
  7. The color of this one tree in my front yardWords won’t do justice so here’s a picture.

  8. This blog http://natgeofound.tumblr.com/ - Reading the captions and looking at the pictures is kind of like reading a small story and then having a visual representation of what the story was about.

These were some of my October favorites, and basically now I can’t wait for November because it will bring more Fall colors, the School Fall Play, and Thanksgiving!

Until Next Time,

Jaagrit
