Something very alarming has come to my attention: LITTLE KIDS ARE (sometimes) MORE GROWN-UP THAN ME! I know, hard to believe, right?! But it's the honest truth. How long this has been going on, I have no idea. But I like to think (and hope) it just started happening. Now, I don't mean these little babes, as I'll put them, are more mature. I don't pick my nose or anything. I mean these children are much more technologically advanced than I was at their age, and maybe more even now.
The other week at Homework Helper, a fifth grader, no taller than 4 feet, asked about my Facebook lanyard. (Yes, I have a Facebook lanyard.) Thinking she was asking about Facebook itself, I began to explain how it worked. She quickly stopped my explanation, saying, "No, no. I know what Facebook is. I have one. In fact, we all have one." I looked around the room to see all the other little fifth graders nodding their head in agreement. A plump boy added nonchalantly, "most of us have I-Phones too." I couldn't (and still can't) believe it!! When did this happen?! I can only picture this blonde girl in front of me taking a photo in front of her mirror with her I-Phone doing that pose...you know the one.
And, what's worse: KIDS DON'T COLOR ANY MORE!! (It's just so sad :( ). I was eating dinner with the fam when I saw this adorable little couple with an even littler baby. They were finishing their meal when the child became restless. She whined for something I couldn't completely comprehend. Her mother pulled what I thought to be a book out of her bag. How sweet, the mom packed a coloring book. But no!! IT WAS JUST AN I-PAD IN DISGUISE AND THE BABY STARTED PLAYING PLANTS VS ZOMBIES!! PLANTS VS ZOMBIES.
Don't get me wrong. I look technology. But WHEN did this happen?! Does anyone know?? Man, it just makes me feel a little melancholy. Oh well...
Peace,
Adlai
PS Sorry for missing my day!!
