Friday the 22- Sarah's Post

So I've been completely dragging my feet on posting on the blog all day today (in case you couldn't tell seeing as I'm currently typing this at 11:40) mostly because I couldn't think of anything significant to write about and also because I thought I was going to have this big revelation like in Julie & Julia where Julie has this huge epiphany that she's going to make a food blog. Yeah, that didn't happen, but I did stumble upon a quote that made me laugh and gave me the inspiration I needed to make my post (which kinda backs up the idea that inspiration can be found anywhere). But anyways the quote is "We are not retreating, we are simply advancing in a different direction."

And I liked this not only because its something I would definitely say because I'm really stubborn and refuse to be wrong sometimes, but also because its a great quote about looking at things from a different perspective. Life isn't always a straight line that has a clear direction and destination, but often a winding path-or maze more like- where we don't often know where we are. Sometimes in order to make progress, you have to be willing to give and take and retreat a couple steps if need be. So while sometimes it may feel like your life may be regressing backwards, just try to keep in mind that sometimes changing directions and looking at things from a fresh perspective might be all you need to get yourself back on track.

I really hope that wasn't cheesy or lame....it's probably way too late and my brain is a little fried. But anyways, happy (very late) Friday everyone and just remember that life is a journey, not a destination and sometimes taking a couple steps backward may just be the push you need to advance in a different direction :)

Breaking Away

So obviously because I'm a genius, I was absolutely CONVINCED that today was my blog day.
 It's not.
It was yesterday. Therefore, I present to you the (belated) February 21st post.

This past weekend I was doing my very best to procrastinate by watching Princess Diaries 2. For the first time in years, I heard the song Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson. Now, first off I've always loved her, not only for her talent, but also because our names are both Kelly AND our initials are both KC. Both of these facts were very important to me as a child (and now, who am I kidding?).

As cliche as it sounds, for the first time, I really understood the lyrics. I was able to identify with the meaning behind them. For those of you not familiar with the song, the general premise is about growing up and breaking away from your current surroundings to move on to bigger and better things.

A few lines that struck a chord with me were "I won't forget the place I come from", "I won't forget the ones that I love", and "I'll take a chance, take a risk, and breakaway".

This essentially embodies how I feel about graduating from high school and leaving for college in the fall. I'll never be able to forget all of the friends I made or any of the amazing memories that I had the honor to take part in. However in order to really be successful in my 'new life' in the upcoming Autumn, I will need to take some risks and not be afraid of change. I must be confident enough to breakaway from the life I've known for so long...to embrace every opportunity I am presented with.

I've always known Princess Diaries was deep.

I hate that woman
I hate the woman who tells me, in her benign voice
that you are not going to talk to me.
What rights does she have?
That's right, you are the one who gave her that right.
Why do you
give her that right when you don't even know her
when she doesn't even know you?

I hate that woman
because she knows what you are doing
and I don't.
I know everyone of your exes,
and now she knows all of you exes
including me.

Now she's the one who answers your phone for you
and she's the one who tirelessly tell me that she's sorry
over and over again.

I hate you for not answering you phone,
I hate that woman, because she tells me that
"I'm sorry, the person you are calling has a voice mailbox that has not been set up yet. Goodbye."

Hi everyone!  It's Emily Katz.  Or, as some may call me, E Katz.

Now with that nickname in mind...everyone reading this should take a guess as to what my favorite animal is.  If you guessed cats, you're so right!

I love cats.  Not just because they share my last name, but because they are a beautiful, mysterious, intelligent and independent animal.  Actually they are really just like us.  For example, cats can be right or left pawed.  Kittens have baby teeth, which are replaced by permanent teeth after several months.  And humans and cats have similar areas in the brain that are responsible for emotion.  Cats have feelings too, everyone.

But more than that, I love cats because they are just so sweet.  Of course there are mean cats out there that will bite you or hiss at you if you get too close, but there are also kind and loving cats.  There is nothing like petting a cat and hearing it purr because it is so happy to be petted.  Sure, dogs can wag their tails, but that's just not the same and you know it.

So everyone, if you have a cat, go and pet it just for me.

I'm just kidding guys.  I hate cats but we all know you wanted me to say I love them.  I hope you all had a good laugh...go dogs!

The Lost Generation-by Jonathan Reed

It's Megan, happy Tuesday!

I'd like to use my blogging day to share this really unique poem that my English class read two weeks ago.

The Lost Generation

Jonathan Reed

I am part of a lost generation.
And I refuse to believe that
I can change the world.
I realize this may be a shock, but
“Happiness comes from within”
Is a lie, and
“Money will make me happy”
So in thirty years, I will tell my children
They are not the most important thing in my life.
My employer will know that
I have my priorities straight because
Work
Is more important than
Family
I tell you this:
Once upon a time
Families stayed together
But this will not be true in my era.
This is a quick fix society
Experts tell me
Thirty years from now, I will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of my divorce.
I do not concede that
I will live in a country of my own making.
In the future,
Environmental destruction will be the norm.
No longer can it be said that
My peers and I care about this Earth.
It will be evident that
My generation is apathetic and lethargic.
It is foolish to presume that
There is hope.

So you've just read that incredibly depressing poem. Now, read it again, but start with the last line and read UP. Pretty cool, huh?
This poem is a fabulous example of choosing to see the bright side of things, no matter how bad it may get. This applies to my life right now, as I have had loads of health issues to deal with lately (that's why I'm never in QRT with you lovely people), but I'm trying to see the good in everything. I hope you all can too after reading this amazing poem.

Have a wonderful night, and look on the bright side of things!
Lots of love, Megan
